Micron launches enterprise level SSD 9300 series with the max writing volume of 74.7PB
There are two versions of the Micron 9300 series NVMe SSD, the 9300 Pro is designed for reading intensive workload, and the 9300 MAX series is suitable for hybrid applications, and the volume of writing is the main difference between these two versions.
With the popularity of all kinds of streaming media, cloud service providers have extremely strict requirements with the capacity of storage devices. Micron has released its latest enterprise-class product, the 9300 Series NVMe SSD, with a maximum capacity of 15.36TB, providing faster and larger hard drives for the cloud service provider and enterprise storage markets.
The Micron 9300 series NVMe SSD has two versions mentioned previously, one of them is 9300 Pro working for reading intensive data, and the other one is 9300 MAX series suitable for hybrid applications. The former model has the capacity of 3.84TB, 7.68TB and 15.36TB, while the latter one is 3.2TB, 6.4TB and 12.8TB. The volume of writing is the main difference between them. 9300 Pro can write data equivalent to its own disk capacity every day. The three capacities are 8.4PB / 16.8PB / 33.6PB per day, and 9300 MAX can write three times as their own capacity per day. The three capacities separately are 18.6PB, 37.3 PB, and 74.7PB, both of which use 64-layer stacked 3D TLC flash memory produced by Micron, which can be achieved with TLC flash memory is really amazing.
Micron 9300 uses one 2.5-inch disk with a thickness of 15mm, loading with a U.2 interface, has an interface bandwidth of PCI-E 3.0x4, and has a capacity of 3TB. The read and write speed of 9300 pro is ranging from 3500 to 3100 MB/s. The other model 9300 Max is 3500 MB/s by writing, also its random read will delay 86us, and random write delay is 11 us, MTTF time was 2 million hours, and the warranty period was 5 years.
The development of enterprise class SSD is super fast these years. No matter the capacity or the speed of it, the parameter has been times as before. Along with the emergency of QLC NAND Flash, higher capacity will be updated soon. Also SSD is the most profitable market at present, it will help Micron get back the losses in traditional memory products, and reach a new level of memory industry.
In order to occupy the SSD market, the other suppliers such as Samsung and Hynix also invest much on developing more advanced products. They will gradually swift their production capacity to produce SSD, and close the production line for 36 layers and 72 layers. Let’s look forward this battle and find out who will be the winner.
