Samsung has released first 1TB eUFS 2.1 flash in the world, providing laptop capacity for high-end mobile phone!
According to Samsung's official news, Samsung Electronics announced that it has started production of first industrial 1TB eUFS 2.1 flash. Officials released smartphones will soon enjoy the same storage capacity as advanced laptops.
Cheol Choi, executive vice president of Memory Sales and Marketing of Samsung Electronics, said. "1TB eUFS is expected to play a key role in providing more laptop-like user experience to the next generation of mobile devices. More importantly, Samsung is committed to ensuring the most reliable supply chain and sufficient production to support the upcoming flagship smartphone in order to accelerate the growth of global mobile market."
Within the same package size (11.5mm x 13.0mm), 1TB eUFS solution doubled the capacity of previous 512GB versions, integrating 16 stacked 512Gb V-NAND flash with newly developed flash master. Smartphone users can now store 260 10-minute videos in 4K UHD (3840 x 2160) format, while 64GB eUFS, widely used in many high-end smartphones, can store 13 videos of the same size.
Samsung said that 1TB eUFS also has excellent speed, allowing users to transmit a large amount of multimedia content in a very short time. The sequential read speed of new eUFS is up to 1,000 MB per second, twice as fast as that of mainstream 2.5-inch SATA SSD. In terms of 1TB eUFS flash, random read speed is up to 58,000 IOPS and random write speed is up to 50,000 IOPS.
Samsung planned to expand its production of fifth-generation 512Gb V-NAND at its Pyeongtaek plant in South Korea in the first half of 2019, targeting at fully meet the needs of global mobile device manufacturers for 1TB eUFS.
